Swallowtail Angels

I have a question in regards to genicanthus Angels. I’m looking at Japanese swallowtails but unfortunately only the females are available. If I were to buy two females different sizes will the larger one morph into a male similar to anthias?

Yes one can turn male but there will be cases it wont. But most likely yes one will turn male.

i think theres been instances where that sex reversal has happened, its just not very common

Does it help if one is purchased larger or should they both be purchased the same size to force the male aggression out?

thsnks for that read, very informative I read all three articles and made the decision to pull the trigger and buy two females of different sizes

Well I got my two angels and they are beautiful and eating very well. They eat anything I place in the qt tank mysis, brine, fish frenzy, Fish eggs and pellets. I got one slightly larger than the other I say one is 3” and the other is 3.5”. The larger one is a little darker in color I hope that one will become a male. Currently treating with prazi

I was going to do this only with three in the hopes one would turn male, when I happen to luck into a pair of spotbreast.
I had a female spotbreast for years that I lost in a move and just loved those fish. Open water swimmers and pretty.
I would love to see pics of yours when they settle in.

I just went to my lfs and they had three of those beauties. One was so tiny. Those look like a decent size and should do well for you. Good luck!

Yea I was at wwc and they had plenty I say about 7 or 8 of them

Purchased my pair about 2 years ago, the larger of the two was a bit darker than the other. The boy finally put his pants on and transitioned to full male maybe 8 months ago. Will post pics at some point, need to clean glass.
