Switching from T5s to T5/LED combo

As the title says, I'm switching from plain T5s (6 bulb 36" over a 4' 75 gal mixed reef) to 4 bulb T5 w/LED combo (also 36").

I have access to a PAR meter through my local club. Knowing that PAR isn't the "be all, end all" measurement, would it make sense to measure the PAR I am getting at key points in my tank with the old lights so I have a baseline of what works; then when I install the new lights I can re-measure and try to avoid blasting my corals with new LED light?

I think that is a good plan. Be sure to measure your PAR directly under the LEDs because the PAR will be higher directly under them towards the top of the tank and then measure the PAR in between the LEDs. You don't want to blast any coral directly under them. I switched over to a 48" Geisemann Aurora from Radion Gen 3 several months ago and I am pleased with the results.

That is correct. Changing the light levels significantly – whether up or down – is an unnecessary stress and can cause bleaching and even mortality.

The lights will be different before and after no matter what due to the format change, to try as hard as you can to match intensity levels before and after the swtich.

If your tank has a tendency to run near or at zero nutrients, I'd allow the tank to get a little dirty leading up to the change.....extra PO4 (compared to normal) in the water may be needed.

LOL....this ^ is not a problem, unfortunately! I do appreciate the input though and will take it under advisement.
