I am starting a 65 gallon reef tank with the end goal of corals, fish, and eventually a snowflake eel. I am looking for a skimmer that’s quiet, durable, and easily repaired if something fails. The shop I go to recommends the aqua excel 20. I’ve read good things about it and want to support local business but wanted to know peoples personal experience with it and how it compares to a comparable magnus or reef octopus. I am looking at something less than $300. The less the better but I don’t wanna skimp on quality. Thanks for any advice and this is my first salt tank ever, came from cichlids and always dreamed of doing a salt tank.

Reef Octopus has been very good for me for decades.

Personal preference though.

Deltec. Best bang for the buck. I personally would go with the AC version. If you can wait till Black Friday sales, they take roughly 20% off.

There's also SCA skimmers that are cheap. The one thing to look out for is the skimmer's pump. Certain DC models don't last long.
