I'm happy to see this thread back on track. Let's see some pics, toxic. Your build is an inspiration for me to do something similar, so while I get my brain wrapped around it, pics will certainly help!

Major difference. Great color!

Typed from my phone, because I have nothing better to do.

Congrats, Toxic!! That's an awesome improvement in color. I'm really starting to think about my situation now after seeing the fruits of your labor. Thanks for the thread and the detail. I may hit you up on some questions if I decide to do this to my light. You must be pretty pleased with the results.

I'm definitely pleased.

The color is about 20k and the LEDs and purple plus makes the colors pop.

Now just gotta get down the little po4 I have left in the tank and stuff will definitely color up.

WOW
That is a night and day difference!!!!

AS always your work is friggen beautiful A+++++++++++
I agree with the led and t5 combo also there is so much color pop and not the heat of a mh.

Using this argument vortech pumps must suck also since I see more of those for sell and people going back to tunze than any other equipment. Just saying. Your corals may look slightly better but the money I save to me doesn't make MH worth using and personally I wouldn't be able to afford all the bulb changes and extra electricity so I would be forced to have a much smaller tank. I'm not saying LED are the best all around. But for me they are.

And for those who don't understand a led/t5 combo its because you haven't used or seen it. LED aren't perfect neither are t5 or MH. Combos are by far the best over any single option.

In my opinion they do b/c they are loud, at least mine are. Next pumps I buy will be Tunze.

Not only do you see them for sale but there are several threads on guys with SPS tanks going back to T5's or mh. As soon as LEDs are a no brainier for SPS like t5s and or halides I'll invest in a heartbeat, just don't think we're there yet.

One last thing, I've seen this light in person and the build quality is top notch and the color it puts out makes me want to throw my mh/T5 fixture in the trash, good job Kevan!!

Look at what these guys over at ATI were thinking! Crazy Germans coming up with this idea! I mean, what was going through their heads?

ATI LED Powermodule - LED Lighting - Lighting

This was my inspiration for my build. I played with these at MACNA and they blew me away. They are incredible in person. The fully dimmable T5s and color matching software is sick to say the least.
