I have a naso tang that refuses to eat anything other than nori. He is in a red sea reefer 750 along with a kole eye tang. I had them for about 2 months now. (1 month qt and 1 month DT) My kole eats everything I put in the tank but my naso only looks for nori. I tried all sorts of frozen foods, garlic, soaking the nori with my frozen food, hiding food within the nori. Nope, does not work. He is so crazy about nori, I can hand feed him it (surprising since it takes weeks for other fish to not get scared when i'm in the same room). Sometimes I starve him trying to get him to eat other foods but that doesn't work. For now he is fat and happy. But im worried without variation or at least proteins, he is going to wither away even though he is fat. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks and Happy Reefing.

It might help to supplement the nori with Selcon / Zoecon, so that at least he's getting some of those vitamins and HUFAs and things. If you make a "nori burrito", and hide other foods inside, he may at least get a taste (before the other fish swoop in to decimate it!) and eventually realize that it's ... kinda good . . .

Both great ideas. Soak the nori in vita chem, selcon, and/or zoecon. In the wild algae is most of their diet.

You can also switch up varieties of nori they have green, brown, red, etc. I feed red and green mostly.

Nori is pretty nutritious and comes in a few varieties. As long as he eats nori greedily I wouldn't worry too much.

Agreed! Naso tangs are harder to get eating that most folks think - and they can go on hunger strikes.
