Hello everyone,
How concerned should I be about a juvenile halfblack mimic tang that’s not interested in Nori, he’s actually scared of the veggie clip. He’s super healthy and active eating algae naturally in the tank. Devouring veggie and marine flakes. I’m more thinking about down the road nutrition wise. Should I continue to offer nori in the veggie clip or wait until he’s older?
Thanks

Yeah continue with the clip! Ive had tangs afraid of it before then learned. My powder blue (got him when he was small) actually attacked the clip the first week or so until he figured out it was food!

If he is grazing in the tank and eating the food you offer otherwise then I wouldn’t be worried about it at all. I have a tomini tang that I’ve had for several years and he has never eaten nori even though many of my other fish eat it.

Agree with all the above, some tangs destroy it, others take time to learn its food, some never do…
Sea lettuce (ulva) is similar…some love it, others don’t …
Its more a individual preference than species specific

Anecdotally, I have tangs that would never touch nori. One has a bad case of hlle (most likely carbon related) and I started soaking tlf sea veggies in selcon and vitachem. Now they devour nori, even when not doctored up. I think they just needed something to entice them to try it. Now they’re hogs. To be fair I’m not 100% that it was the selcon/vitachem or changing to tlf sea veggies over regular nori as I did them both at the same time. My money is on the vitamins though.
