Tang Question

I have a 48x48x24 aquarium. I have a 6 to 7 inch Blond Naso Tang (w/ streamers) in quarantine now. I would like to get a White Cheek tang. I've read that its not a good idea to have more than one Acanthurus in the same aquarium. I understand shape and coloration are factors. Has anyone kept these two fish in the same aquarium? I'd like to hear your experiences with the White Cheek Tang.

they may fight, especially since the white cheek tang is one of the more aggressive fish, it might work if introduced at the same time but the longer the Naso is in there the more likely it will get territorial, but the Naso will also get cramped in time and more aggressive. But generally Naso's are one of the most peaceful tangs so it MIGHT be okay.
some other things that can help is keeping the tangs well fed, quarantine, visual breaks and not adding 1 tang at a time best case all at once or in groups or just 1, introducing just before lights go out, adding a mirror to outsideside of tank temporally, adding tangs from different family.

The Naso isn't an Acanthurus. It is in the genus Naso. Typically, Naso tangs are gentle giants. They should be compatible, but the Naso will get big.

I would have a hard time believing Naso would cause issues. They are peaceful and graceful

I saw on live aquaria they are both from the Acanthurus family

All tangs are in the Acanthuridae family.

Acanthurus is a genus within the tang family that includes the white cheek, powder blue, sohal, convict, achilles, and others. Naso is a different genus.

As above, if it is big enough to have streamers imo it will go stir crazy in that shaped tank.

Funny thing, White cheek tangs and Naso tangs are in two separate genera. It could go well since the diagonal swim room is A LOT more than the regular tank size. A 4’x2’x2’ tank has a 5’ diagonal across the base, a 4’x4’x2’ must have Atleast 6’.

Had the Naso in the tank a year now. So far so good.

To nitpick, your math is a screwy. :)

4x2 would have a hypotenuse of 4.47.
4x4 would be 5.66
