Tang woes...among other problems

Far before the prazi was dosed. Easily since mid December. Keep thinking it was getting better then it'd get worse. Nothing odd in the house fueling it like chemicals or candles. I've been thinking about a de filter or uv to clear it up, just posted on my local forum to see if anyone will sell me one locally.

Dry sand or wet? If dry, did you rinse it thoroughly? Some dry sand is really nasty and will continuously cloud up a tank.

Was wet fresh from the bag and I wish I rinsed it anyways because it does cloud. But it seems to be a different type of cloudiness even the sand gets stirred up.

Great update today. Yellow tang ate both lrs and nori for the first time since 1/21. Barely ate but she doesn't run and hide anymore when I walk by. I'll probably dose prazi a third time in a few days to be safe since some fish are still flagging. Overall I'm cautiously hopeful.

Ran 25 micron socks for the last few days. Cloudy water is nearly gone and the tangs continue to improve. I still see some wrasses flashing, will probably dose prazi one more time just in case.

Around 2/15 the tangs started to decline again. It had been a few days without running the socks. Saw some wrasses flashing still so I dosed prazi for a third time 2/17. Some wrasses are still flashing today even. The tangs have declined more but still occasionally eat, especially nori early am and late at night. Bacterial bloom still in full effect despite ruining the skimmer wet since 2/20. Put in fresh carbon today, the crap that was in there was a month old and gross.

Shrug. No idea what to do. At this point I think the bloom is just irritating the fish and depriving the water of oxygen enough to stress those two tangs, maybe their gills got some damage from previous suspected flukes. I guess I'll just keep changing 25 micron socks daily, keep skimming wet, no water changes, or break down and buy a uv sterilizer.

For a UV you are going to need a considerable sized one for your size system to really be any sort of effective. Will a fish trap work for you to retrieve them into a place where you could try hypo or some other medication process to clear them all up?

You likely need something other than Praziquantel on your flukes. I have three different qt set up and fish from different sources in each- and all of them arrived with prazi resistant flukes (had). Something is in the supply chain!

You can get a 55w jebao UV for about $80 on amazon. Certainly worth a shot to try to eliminate the bloom. As far as the flashing fish, I agree with strong potential of prazi resistant flukes. If it were my tank, I would capture a fish or two and do a freshwater dip to check for flukes.

Ich tomont is one of the hardest to kill with UV due to it being one of the highest required exposure -like 336,000 uws/cm2. So light output and flow need to go into sizing should you be looking to acquire one. Need to look at the output sheets You will need a BIG one on a 180 with sump. And flow dictates timing in exposure.

So if you get a 90,000 output it needs 4 seconds timing in the light to kill it.

I'm not trying to target ich with the uv, I have a good qt process now and my fish are ich free after a difficult but successful ttm. Thank you @dwest for the jebao suggestion I'll probably buy that today.

I do have a couple fish I could easily net, unfortunately they are not flashing at all. I should have checked for flukes post ttm but hind sight is 20/20...

I grabbed the 55w jebao sterilizer. Will be here Monday, hopefully that'll clear up the water and I'll get a better idea of what I'm dealing with. Really hoping it's not prazi resistant flukes.

Great update today. Had the uv ruining the past two days, all fish are doing better. Both of the questionable tangs ate lrs and nori this evening and their breathing was nearly normal. Then I spilled my skimmer cup into my tank...heh...there are ups and downs...think that should turn out ok, it was only like 2 days width of crap.
