I think we can mostly agree.
1/ Stress is a killer.
2/ QTing is stressful to fish.
3/ medicating with the likes if copper is stressful to fish
4/ The environment we create for our fish plays an important part in reducing stress.
5/ The lack of predators reduces stress.
6/ A healthy diet is important to the health of out fish.
7/ Other tank mates carefully chosen and reduce stress or heighten it.
8/ cramped conditions adds to stress.
9/ poor water quality can also be stressful.
Am not going to add a tenth.

Yes, but I think #2 is not similar in contex to the others, and focusing on it is somewhat of a throwback to your opinion to not use QT.

While qt is stressful for a period when it is done, is not an ongoing stress like all of the others, and if one does what you otherwise recommend (looking for good healthy fish to start with), and one uses fish that were qt'd but are seemingly healthy and doing well after qt, that it is not going to be a contributor to disease.

Any effect that my qt'd fish had months ago is no longer any sort of negative concern to their current health.

It's what damage QTing has done and carried forward into the DT not just the act of QTing. I believe QTing reducing the fishes ability to fend off problems with possable resistance lost at least for a while.
It can be no coincidence, most fish are lost within the first couple of weeks. Not necessarily through QTing however, as we know collection, handing, how they are treated while waiting shipment from the collection station etc all can cause terminal damage.

Although I study potential purchases for a while before making purchases I have no idea if they have been QTd or not. However, most LFS's in the UK don't QT. They are for sale the day they come into the store. I do know at least one FLS uses background copper in their fish system.

I want my fish as soon as they are available to prevent long term exposure to the likes of copper. The reasons, I Paul and others do so have been well documented so no need to repeat them here.

I don't disagree with that, aside from the loss of resistance hypothesis when in a qt. It may or may not be true in fish, but its not generally what happens to humans. Resistance in humans is not typically lost in 2 weeks of lack of exposure to a pathogen.

I shall keep them in summer. Maybe a small secondhand wine cooler.
I use a cheap cooler that you can plug into the power outlet in a car or into the plug in your house. It was $69.00 and keeps the temp about 40 degrees which is a little too low so I have a timer on it that goes on every 30 minutes or so and stays off about the same amount of time so it doesn't get to cold.

Of course I disagree with this because I feel quarantine, and then putting the fish into a tank with no parasites is a recipe for disaster down the line. But you know how I feel about that so I won't go over it.

I won't put a quarantined fish in my tank as I don't think it would fare well, depending on how long it was quarantined. That fish has no, or reduced immunity. IMO of course.

Quarantining fish is not normally done in 2 weeks. More like 2 months.

Was looking through eBay for a suitable chiller abd found this one for sale. Dule power supply 12v off a car or mains power complete with built in thermostat so I can dial in the temperature I want. It was collection only but only 15 mins drive from me and only £15 about $20 of your funny money. Now that's a result.

For some reason the notification emails on this thread are not working. I even unwatched and re-watched and that didn't work. So I just unwatched again and am making this post to automatically re-watch it. Anyone else having this issue? It's only for this one thread

Happens regular for me for whatever reason. Not sure about other threads but think it's similar.

Working now. In the past the alerts still worked usually, but I would occasionally miss one somehow and then when I visited they would start over. That didn't happen this time, must have just been a glitch

Maybe because there are 12,131 replies and the notification thing got burned out. 😎

This morning, I am taking my wife to her PT/Pilates appointment, which we do every week. Yesterday we went for her hand PT. This is how we spend much of our time. Today her appointment is 45 minutes away, but the good part is my favorite LFS is right near there so I packed the car with two coolers in case I find some things I want. Not very likely, but sometimes, something unusual comes in and I grab it. 😎

I donate 100% of the profits from my two books to charity. I post the receipts to prove I am not using the money for Copperband Butterflies or Prizapro.

I am splitting the profits to MS Research, Wounded Warriors and Tunnels To Towers. This ones is only for MS. I didn't receive the other receipts yet but when I do, I will post them.
