Hello Uncle Gilbert. I am also old and have been SCUBA diving in the Sound since about 1974. My friend and dive partner had our own boats and equipment and would go for lobsters. We would get the most lobsters at night.New here old thread

Oh boy Paul, I do not like to hear this! Scary times we live in.This morning at almost sunrise I went down to the beach armed with a bucket to collect amphipods. I knew it would be a very low tide.
But nothing. Not one amphipod where there should have been millions. This is scary because after the amphipods are gone, whose next?
I did see many invasive Japanese shore crabs and tiny eels but thats it.
I did swirl algae and barnacle covered rocks in my bucket of seawater just for the bacteria and hopefully baby amphipods.
I will take this water/mud and strain it in a rotifer filter to at least get some bacteria. Later, if I get time, I will put it under a microscope tosee if I got anything.

I see this every late summer/early fall, Paul. Believe they migrate away from the shore. BTW beautiful reef tank. This morning at almost sunrise I went down to the beach armed with a bucket to collect amphipods. I knew it would be a very low tide.

This made me laugh, I can almost pictures a newb asking if a baby swordfish will live in thier AIO cubeso I hope I don't find a baby swordfish or horseshoe crab because I know I will put them in my tank.
I'm going to need a bigger tank, waaay biggerDolphins are really cool but I think the newborns are as big as your 180 gallon tank.
You can keep newborn swordfish in a tank but I would imagine they are jumpers and will outgrow any tank in a few weeks. :anguished-face:
