I'm in the process of re-siliconing and replacing the front panel on this 72x19x19" tank. All glass is 3/8"
While I'm at it, I would like to change the top brace to something a little less obstructive.
The current brace is 19" across and is also 3/8" glass.
I was thinking something along the lines of 4 4" braces. One on each edge and two dividing the tank into even thirds. The middle ones being 12" off center of the tank. Would this be sufficient?
It came with a rim that I will probably reinstall when I'm done.
I plan on running 3 orphek icons over the tank.

Would I be better off eurobracing?

I like your idea but I would just leave it. It's kind of good because you will spend less on a lid that's what I see.
Maybe go at it with a buffer for a while though while the tanks empty.

I can't get a pic of the scratches very well with my camera, but they are very deep. The panel needs to be replaced.
Wondering if maybe while I'm at it, i should just do all 3 of the viewing sides in a low iron glass and bump the thickness up to 1/2"

All you need is 2 x 4" brace few inches shorter than the length of the tank siliconed to the inside of the front and back of the tank.

Single 6" cross brace in the middle would be sufficient.

Ok... I've finally decided. I'm gonna do it right and spend the extra $ for a low iron front panel. Do I need to go up to 1/2" thickness for low iron? I've got the old silicone removed from all of the corners and edges at this point. Haven't cut between the panels yet.
Does anyone have a reference or possibly a contact for a tank builder that wouldn't mind giving me some tips/advice on how to go forward with it?

Thanks!
