Hello All. Sharing this so hopefully it doesn’t happen to others. I recently set up a second larger nano tank. Purchased high quality equipment. Seeded with rock from my other tank. All was great with a clown, firefish, inverts, and a bunch of corals, some that I moved from my old tank. Been running great for months. I went on a 5 day vacation out of the country, had an auto feeder set up thinking I’d be ok and the outlet my equipment was plugged into failed. I came home to a completely dead tank that smelled atrocious. No filtration or anything for 5 days and everything died. A bit devastating since some of the corals I had for 4 years. I’m going to get the outlet replaced but sharing this for those that are new to this and can be away for days. Either have some kind of battery backup or someone that can check on the fish. I feel terrible about it. I had to throw everything out and clean the tank with vinegar. Hopefully it doesn’t smell tomorrow. I’ll have to start from scratch again. I almost want to quit the hobby because of how I feel. Hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else or this helps someone consider this if they travel.

I'm sorry to hear of your unfortunate event, but yes, I feel everyone should have a back up power supply just in case.

I agree that everyone should have a backup plan and be prepared when disaster might strike. The house I'm moving to in a few weeks has a massive outside generator that I will be using whenever power goes out.

I’m so very sorry for this huge loss of the tank you have loved so much! I have multiple back up batteries now after the SoCal fires in January where we were without power for almost two weeks. Lost everything in the two fridges but saved the tank’s (which was sheer luck I got the backups before they sold out!)! I don’t leave anymore without someone to check on the tanks and take care of issues. I was just on a trip for 5 days when of course the power went out. Glad I could call and ask them to plug in the backup!

Sorry to hear. To everyone I would recommend a power cell like the following:

Have you used this brand?
I havent but the one I have is similar. As always, I look deeply into the reviews. That one is the basic idea of what works really well for an aquarium to run 1 mp40 and 1 return pump. The higher capacity ones will also keep the heat on for days. Mine just keeps pumps on.
