Tank filter question

I'm brand new to this and just completed setting up my first aquarium, a Nyos Opus 300 G2. Everything is going good so far, but the sock filter component doesn't seem right. The acrylic plate that sits on top doesn't sit flush and some water coming in goes through the gap instead of through the sock. Also the sock itself doesn't sit well and some water bypasses it through the edge.

I get the impression it's not a big deal, but wondering if I'm just doing something wrong.

Not a big deal, in my opinion, but you may be able to find a shorter sock that fits that sump a little better. You may also wish to replace the sock with a media cup, and then run Poly-Fil (filter floss) instead of socks. Or jst go with no mechanical filtration at all, as some do
