Tank is overflowing

I have a aquatop 40 aio tank and the original pump started to die. I bought a mighty jet pump to replace it and at the lowest settings the pump just pushes too much water and causes the water to overflow and leak. I went ahead and bought a sicce silent 2.0 pump and same thing. What could be causing this? I’m using filter floss. Appreciate any help.

Just looking at specs on that tank. The filtration rate is rated for 475 gph and the Sicce 2.0 is rated at 568 gph. Since it's an AIO there's very little head loss so you're going to pushing very close to rated flow from that pump.
 
Can you find the specs for the original pump or contact the manufacturer of the tank for the flow rating? I've only ever used adjustable DC pumps when replacing stock pumps on an AIO so I can set the flow as needed.
 
I had originally thought on AIO tanks that the divider was slightly below the tank rim to prevent any possibility of water on the floor, I mean why wouldn't you design it that way. But looking around a bit, it doesn't seem that's a standard at all.

The original pump is rated at 475gph. The mighty jet 538 pump and the sicce silent 2.0 are common upgrades from the one that came from aquatop. I was running both on the lowest settings but it didn't help.

I have a screen on top of my tank and I think the water just starts getting under it and leaking from the side. Very frustrating.

Sorry forgot to reply to this in my other post. The mighty jet and sicce pump are adjustable and I'm running them on the lowest setting so I don't think I'm reaching those high end numbers.

IM does this, but yeah a lot of the ones I have looked at do not for some reason.
 
It could be a combination of factors. Build up on the weir and a pump close to limits. Also the screen (assuming it's in the water or the edge is below the rim as is common) could be wicking water over the rim. In that case you need to downsize pump a bit to reduce flow to drop level so top can't wick.

Sometimes those fittings on the Sicce can get misaligned (have the 3.0). But agree if you have flow at min then I would think you'd be ok. I would think same.

Also make sure your at rest water level isn't too high and/or ATO set too high. It might just be trying to flow and no room to drop down in back chamber.

Same. My IM20 is like that but I was surprised when I received my litttle IOAOI 8G that is wasn't like the IM .
 
Try removing the filter floss, it is probably restricting flow in back sections. I also suspect you have too much water in the tank since more water was added to the tank to compensate for the restricted flow (so to keep the return tank from running dry). Try removing the floss, remove enough water until everything looks normal
 
For others when you get a new AIO tank I run it outside put water in from the hose and run, try to find the sweet spot of flow and water line for the ATO, if the pump is not sufficient you can upgrade at that time.
I tried a Sicce 2.0 is a IM 15 AIO it was too much flow, I had to add to much water to keep the water level above the pump, turn off the pump and watch the water rise to dangerous levels. It is better to know this outside.
