So I currently have a 20g long aqueon with around 20lb of live rock for a little over a year. Im now going to get a relatives IM 25g lagoon. I’ve never done a swap but I understand about separating everything in tubs and either replacing the sand or rinsing really well. What I’m not sure about is how much live rock do I need to transfer over if I would like to make a new aquascape with new dullest Marco rock?

Good question -- I transferred 20-25 lbs of live rock during tank transfer from 37 gallon tall to 40 gallon breeder. (Used new sand and added another 20 lbs of dry rock).

That was enough to never see any ammonia spike -- but that's just a single sample set.
