So I feel like this might be on the edge of the rules as there shouldn't be any discussion of drugs or illegal activity on the forum and it should be kept family friendly so mods in advance I'm not trying to start any trouble by starting this thread. I've been wondering if this is anyone out there like me who has used reefing as a tool in their recovery process from addictions. People joke all the time about reefing being an addiction but anyone else out there actually replaced any real addictions with reefing?

That's awesome! No real life experiences to share but I congratulate you for working towards recovery. Not sure what your vice was (no need to elaborate either) but anything that a person feels they cant control and they consider harmful enough to call an addiction they need to triumph, is all that needs to be congratulated. Kudos to you in what could be a lifelong battle.

I was an alcoholic, 60% liver failure by the time I was 25. Got my stuff together. Now my extra $$ goes to reefing and it keeps me occupied and gives me new circles of friends.

Well to be frank I still struggle with my drinking. Never something I intended to quit in the beginning but might be getting there as well. I've been clean from my drug use for almost 2 years now though:)
Nice !

Tanks are great. It not just addiction it can help with. With out much detail, it helps with ptsd, depression, and a host of other things.

I tell my wife I am “playing fish” which is my time to zone out and pull algae or clean glass, or dose or test. Things that focus the mind in a better direction.

I think my tanks help keep me sane. Probably the best stress reliever I've ever encountered. To 68Wreefer and Hemmdog: While no one who hasn't battled an addiction can truely know the courage and strength of will it takes, there are those of us that respect what you are accomplishing. You guys rock!

I always tell people when they ask why all the tanks....idle hands are the devils play ground.

We all have our demons

Congratulations! Keep up the good fight! It can be won!

Don't know about this specific application but I know many nursing homes, offices and mental health facilities have tanks because they have been shown in studies to help with many of the patients problems. I think it would by great adjunct in helping many medical problems including addiction!

My demons come in the form of depression and anxiety. I used to treat with time with my dog, time outdoors, time spent hunting/fishing/etc. Then life happened and I got away from those and struggled, then gradually got into running and riding (a lot) to keep myself moderately ok and it worked a charm.

Then I partially ruptured my achilles tendon. Had surgery 6 months later b/c it wouldn't heal. 14 months post surgery I have given up trying to run or ride, they are things of my past thanks to my injury. To say I have struggled would be a mild understatement.

That's why I want to get back to keeping a tank and a big one, full of things that make me happy, that I can enjoy. It's also why it is so important for me to try and get right b/c I know if I "f" it up then I will beat myself up over it making things worse not better.

So with any luck after my relocation (which also isn't helping) I'll be able to settle in and get a big dose of tank therapy.

What I wouldn't give to be able to rub my Smokey's ears again (the Weimaraner in my avatar). Having her around always calmed me down.

Injuries suck. I'm sorry to hear that you've been handed these set backs on your road coping with your demons. Keep chasing those healthy coping mechanisms! Your on the right track if you keep chasing them. Hope you can get that big tank up and running soon!!

Right now I feel like the only thing I am chasing is another 30lb weight gain! I went from being in the best shape of my life (not best weight but hey I felt great) to being in the worst physical shape. I had two TIAs after my surgery and my food choices went to hell. My liver decided it wasn't happy and I got it turned around just in time to deal with the 'rona lockdown. Handled it well but my achilles and hip made me throw in the towel in June and it has been a steady downhill slide! Trying to pull out of it but things like life keep getting in the way! :D

Literally trying to buy I house that either has an outbuilding I can convert to a "tank house" or a space big enough to support a 10'x4'x(3-4')-ish tank and supporting equipment. Have one in my cross hairs but won't here about the job in time to make the move on it.

First off if you feel great you feel great. Don't focus on the weight. I am an avid weight lifter myself. Chasing weight has gotten me spinning my tires before. Wow that is a big set up your shooting for!! I'll be looking forward to a post on the tank when you get things moving!

Agreed, the number didn't matter too much other than to be surprising how good I felt. Seems like a decade ago but in reality just under two years.

The tank will most likely end up being much smaller. I did the math the other day and that ended up being something like $12k in just acrylic. It is still going to be big but maybe not 1200g big :( (or I just go all out and do it, will depend on where I end up living.)
