Tank wide Bayer dosing?

Does anyone have a protocol for tank broadcast dosing of Bayer? Tank has had 2 cycles of cipro dosing so I'm sure it's not bacterial.

I know it will kill off all the pods too but I think I might have something irritating my torches. Revive dips help but I can't constantly be dipping my torches every 2 weeks in Revive.

Because the quantity of Revive you'd have to dose is significantly higher than Bayer. And Revive simply stuns the LPS annoying pods, not kill them.

How do you know the dose since NO WHERE is there an in-tank recommendation for coral dips like these. If you're intent on doing this, put the coral in another tank and treat that... Don't nuke your whole ecosystem!

I’d use bleach myself… maybe even muratic acid with a 1:1 dilution… try 1 gallon acid per 10 gallons of water… just make sure to drain the tank down about half way as the acid will foam a little bit… let that chill for a hour then pour 5 pounds of baking soda in to neutralize it and be so fresh and so clean! :zany-face: “I really didn’t wanna put that emoji” but who knows with todays people somebody might read this and actually do it! Haha

Couple years ago people would have balked at dosing antibiotics in the tank... since that would wipe out all the bacteria!

Feel free to nuke your system... you asked for a dosing "protocol" and you're not going to find one.

(I'm sorry if my responses are harsh, but I'd hate for someone to stumble on this thread and think that adding Bayer to their tanks is even remotely a good idea)

I used it once and I had to wear all types of Ppe and buckets in a ventilated area. Harsh stuff my dude. Nvr again.

What exactly is going on with your torches?

Plenty of dip options and methods to try that don't involve pouring pesticide into your system...

Proven treatment method for Euphyllia and similar.
Brown Jelly and tissue recession

Iodine alone will not stop it. It's a tiny bandaid.

1. 2 cups of tank water 1 capful of witch hazel (hydrogen peroxide is fine too). Swirl it around a bit to release the jelly. Dip for 15mins

2. 2 cups of tank water 1/2 package of furan 2. Same process.

3. 2 cups of tank water and iodine until it looks like lightly colored iced tea. Same process.

4. Rinse in tank water. Reintroduce to tank in low light.

Separate dishes for each, don't combine.

For brown jelly or extreme tissue recession, dipping back to back days may be required.

That is brown jelly, a sign that bacteria has attacked the torch.

Here is a bath you can use to try and save it.

In a separate container add these ingredients, each case is different so I would suggest this in this case...

4g tank water
Sponge filter
Powerhead

1000mg cipro
10 scoops chemiclean

Mix these 2 first to dissolve the medication.

Then add

Restore 20ml
Amino acids 10ml
Witch hazel 10ml
Lugols Iodine 5 full droppers

Turn power head off after all is mixed and then add the torch.

Before you add the torch take a small tube and suck that nasty stuff off the head of your torch before lifting it out of the water to limit the bacteria getting more into the tank.

Leave the torch for 4 to 6 hours with the sponge winter going to oxygenate the container.

Please don’t do this.

If you think something is irritating your corals, posting some photos here in the thread will allow others to help identify what might be going on and any potential remedies that won’t involve you nuking your tank.

And for what it’s worth, I hope the torches/coral were in a separate tank that was receiving the ciprofloxacin. If not, you should get a small tank for corals to be treated in. And also recommend you look up cipro dipping.
