Any idea on this guy? I’ve disposed of 2 crabs so far and about 8 whelk snails (anywhere from tiny to full grown). Also some good hitchhikers in here including an urchin! Thoughts on this one? Somewhat fuzzy back legs. Not black in him at all (even the claws). He’s a reddish tint with some striping on his back legs

Thanks for the input! Now I’m in need of some real help. I found this guy at 1 am last night. My nightly routine to see what hitchhikers come out . Any idea how to catch him? I want to take him up to my LFS so he can be properly taken care of.

Good find with the mithrax crab!

Re: dwarf octo, maybe try a bottle trap with some clam meat inside or even just an open clam?
I’ll try this! When you say clam meat or an open clam, can I just get one from the grocery store? Or is there a specific type?

How to catch a crab

1.materials required.
-small chunk of stinky, nasty meat (chicken liver, bacon, etc.)

-a pair of your wife’s favorite nylon stockings

-small rock

-red lense flashlight

-easy chair

-beer

process

1. place meat and small rock in hose.
2. drape hose over tank edge with meat at bottom of tank.
3. turn off lights
4. sit in easy chair and drink beer.
5. wait (drink more beer)
6. Periodically check with flashlight. When crab goes for meat, will become tangled in hose, whereby you can pull him from tank.
7. (My favorite part) place crab and end of hose in a mason jar and go show your wife what an awesome crab hunter you are.
