I don't use my Apex to turn my heater on or off. but as a failsafe to turn off the heater if water gets to hot. Using the apex to control the heater can prematurely wear your plug. What heater are you running? Some heaters with a digital display have a calibration so you can adjust your heater. Personally I use Helios, but have used Finnex with good results.

I like an Ink Bird Controller or a Ranco, which is funny because I Googled Danco because I forgot the right name.

A rigorous heater and/ or chiller controller is (in my opinion) foundational for tank stability and fish health.

I can't say from experience how Apex does in this arena, but I have not heard complaints or praise so I made this long post to get the board talking, and here someone else has just posted. 🙃

What heater are you using and what is the heater/controller settings vs. actual?

All controllers are hobbiest grade so may vary a little from actual within reason.

More importantly, you also have to be sure probes/sensors have a good flow of water through the full tank, especially in AIO chambers where a heater chamber could get hot, but if probe is in main tank/another chamber, you could have noticably different temps across tank areas. In the EVO 5 specifically, the chamber above pump doesn't have great flow.
