I have a Red Sea Nano Max Peninsula G2 (buckets at the ready for you RS haters:))

My question for folks familiar with this tank is where is the best location to put the heater temperature sensor?
I have a 100W IM Helio PTC System which has a heating element and a separate temperature sensor.
I have placed the heating element in the back chamber under the filter sock area (nanomat area) and protein skimmer area (far left/middle chamber when facing the tank).
Currently I have the temperature sensor in the third chamber (far right when facing the tank).
The issue that has happened a couple of times is that the area where I have the temperature sensor is also the area where the ATO+ system adds top off water. In my system the top off water is at room temperature (around 72). All is fine unless the ATO runs a bit long. The sudden temperature drop near the Helio sensor trips an E7 error (Remote sensor has been detected to be out of water or a sudden temperature swing).
I am currently mitigating this by placing the temp sensor as far away in the third chamber as possible from the ATO top off location. However it not perfect, the sensor blocks access to the media chamber, and if there is a large addition of water from the ATO is still can trip the E7 error.

I don't really want the temp sensor in the display and it likely a bad idea to put it in the first chamber with the heater and there is just not a lot of space.

Any advice?

I want to know what the water in the tank and the water in the return section is. My heater is in the return section and I have two sensors - return section and in the tank. If either of them is over the threshold it turns the heater off. If the tank itself is at or above the set point the heater is off. The heater only turns on if the tank is below the set point.

I hope that made sense?

With a single sensor I'd prefer the sensor in the return chamber measuring what's entering the tank and the heater in the first chamber if possible but it usually isn't so chamber 2 works. That's how I have my AIO set up.

You can get an ATO that doesnt dump a lot of water at once. I have the XP aqua duetto and it fills such short amounts of water and has a max fill lockout safety.
Or get a different heater. The safety is nice but is it really needed if your probe is suctioned to the wall?

My hygger heater sensor is in the same chamber as my duetto ato and theres no issues. Your tanks back compartment looks difficult to add a heater with probe to.

I had the heater in the filter sock area in my Red Sea Nano. Never had issues with it being there

In my 15g aio I have the sensor attatched to the return with a zip tie. Works well even when its coated in coralline.
It works just as well at the bottom of the return.
