Temporary frag tank - Cycle?

Hi Reefers!

I will be closing down my Red Sea 170 tank which has a number of corals in which will eventually move over to my new tank.

Question is, will i need to allow time for cycling the frag tank if i take bio media (balls and blocks) from my current tank in to the frag tank? I do have about 2 kg. of cycled bio media.

If it will aid the process, some- or all of the water in my current tank can be used as well.

As of now, there is no immediate plans of having a heavy bio load in the frag tank; i will move over a couple of cleaner shrimps and eventually there will be a couple of utilitarIan fish moving in.

Yes you should be able to do an immediate transfer like that as the bio media will basically act as live rock and will seed your tank with bacteria.

Thanks, I will be moving over most of the media over the weekend. I suppose i could try to dose 0,5-1 ppm ammonia to check if it actually does what it is supposed to do?
