Tentacles!!!

In both of my tanks - 40 and 170 gallons - I just noticed these tentacles coming out of live rock. They look like what corals extend, but there is no coral. They come out of holes in the rock. What the heck is this??

You talking about the greenish looking stuff? That would what appears to be algal growth to me.

Greenish in the green video, bluish in the blue. There is a bit of green algae (including huge hair algae), but this one looks very different from all the hair algae. It looks like sweeper tentacles.

Slimy green algae/mucus. Maybe some dinoflagellates mixed into the green hair algae, but there are also some really slimy green hair algae species.

As your tank is quite new, if I remember correctly, it's nothing to worry about. However, I would remove it from the coral. You should be able to siphon it out quite easily, even a feeding pipette should be enough.

Yep, quite new, both of them. One of them is right near some Zoas!

Yes, it's not a big deal, you can just remove it from the Zoas and they should be fine. Maybe even the reason why the polyps directed towards the slime aren't fully opening.

Used a turkey baster and they were gone!
