I noticed this clear like tentacles coming out of my red goniopora, looks like it coming out of the rock it is colonized on. I saw it before and it went away like it retracted. Today i see them out again and it looks like they stretched out and attached to another rock. But at same time i cant tell if that is killing some of the polyps? i def notice some spots that dont have a polyp anymore where they were.
What is this?
The picture isnt that clear but you can see the long clear tentacle looking floating off of it.

Is that just one colony?
Some heads look like goniopora some look like alvepora :S Maybe it's just the angle or something.
I can't help with your actual question though, sorry.

Does the "tentacles" appear to catch particles floating by? It's hard to see it looking at the screen on my cheap phone.

I am a little confused, I know 100% there are tentacles coming out of the rock portion of it, but these long strong clear things are definitely attached to the neihbor rock now and these do have particles caught on them. I actually moved the Red Goni yesterday cause i was worred. I litle brushed off some areas that looked covered and placed it in another location. The Clear long things are still on the other rock, but again the goni itself does have some tentacles that come out of the rock here and there....
Yes this is 1 big colony

Could be mucus from a vermetid snail.

interesting, so the white granules on it i assume are sand ? or snail eggs?
That may explain the long clear ones attached to neighbor rock, but the Goni itself does have clear tentacles that come out of the rock. I have seen it in 2 different places and they retract.

I was thinking vermatid snail as well. They send out white stringy stuff that looks almost like a spider web to catch food. Just track where the strings are coming from and if it is a vermatid snail, you should see the strings coming out of a hard shell that is conical in shape.
