Tessalata eel?

Only change is I reduced my nutrients massively.
Diet is mostly salmon and squid with occasional silversides, krill, and mussels

When a fish is used to a certain level of nutrients, reducing that number drastically without a proper gap is no different than getting home a new fish from the store, in other words it might be acclimating to it's new water condition.


Try some crab meat, my zebra has yet to deny crab meat even if he's full Lol

I don't know much about snake eels since I've only had experience with echidna and gymnothorax's so I don't know how long they can go without food

But I believe that I can compare them to some more sensitive echidna's, my echidna delicatula took about 1 and a half month to properly get acclimated to my tongs, he was too shy to even come out in the light

Im not sure what he is, was sold to me as a jeweled but his face looks more like a mexican dragon eel to me. The store had no clue what his scientific name was!!

Incase if you are worrying that it may be a different eel it is indeed a jeweled, definitely one closer to the west african dragon moray (muraena melanotis)

I hope he starts eating, even if one of my eels goes off food i get distressed Lol, Though i sure am quite excited to unbox my rueppelliae tomorrow morning, I'll send a pic to the dedicated eel show case thread as soon as I get him in quarantine!

Gotcha! Kinda thought Ivar was some kind of dragon eel. I got a steal of a deal on him! I did see the guy who posted a picture of his west african dragon and was like wow he looks like Ivar but different colors. Then figured out he looks like a mexican dragon moray with his coloring. I love him he is an awesome eel!

My zebra eel does this, she goes through phases of wanting to eat like every day and then a week or two fast period. Maybe he realized he was over eating??

I believe that could be the case! unlike fish who keep eating non stop Lol that's why I find that Eels are so unique! It's one of the reasons why I am so attracted to them haha

I wonder if there's any research conducted on eel fat storages which can suggest their eating patterns to keep up with their metabolic rate and fat build up

Eels can go on hunger strikes for over 6 months no problem. They randomly will fluctuate eating patterns as they manage different growth spurts of length and girth. All common. Managing PH and water fluctuations will help reduce this. I've had eels stuff themselves so much they've began to float and had to lodge themsleves under a rock. Then a couple months later they don't eat for a month.

It's surprising how i used a 10 gallon tank to quarantine him at start but now he does not fit in there Lol

She was over 2 feet when I got mine! Shes hanging out with Ivar but cant fit her whole body in that particular cave lol
