Test Kits (Which one do you use and why?)

I use API test kits to give me a general idea of my parameters. But when i want to know exact i use my Hanna checker.

I use the red sea test kits for alk/CA/Mag and Salifert for nitrate/P04. They have been working for me, easy to use/read and I'm used to how to use them.

That said, I have hanna checkers sitting downstairs that I've never used...

Yea i rarely use the hanna checker to tell you the truth. If the API checker is in the normal range the i don't even bother to use it.

API does the trick for me and will get you within range. Its nice to be more exact but I have never seen the need.

Not sure which test to trust on Ca............API reads 380 and Red Sea Reads 500! Could be in my procedures with the Red Sea but I am following the directions as listed? Suggestions welcome.

make up some NSW and test that with both. Then compare.

Red sea for can/mag/alk/nitrate. Hanna checker for phosphate. Api for ammonia and nitrite.

Salifert for alk and mag. Api and elos for rest. The salifert mag is the only reliable one I have found. IV heard a few complaints of the red sea testing to high on mag. I hated my elos mag test. I do like the red sea pro kit it's pretty awesome

I use Hanna for phosphate and alkalinity. I use Salifert for everything else. I used to check weekly and keep a log. I haven't checked in months now because I never noticed a change in the readings. I do pretty regular water changes and dose kalk in my top off so my parameters stay pretty constant. I need to get get back in the habit of regular testing though. It's a good practice.

I have a app on my ipad that keeps a running log of your water parameters. It also tells you what is the "normal" range and you can go back by date and look at your logs. Cool app.

More info like 1 time a month I bust out the Red Sea pro's
I use the Hanna checkers, More precise and exact numbers. Just picked up Hanna Refractometer digital. Its nice to just drop water on it and its like BAM!!!! salinity and temp!!:laser:
