Can confirm that there will be salt in the air and it will do damage to the surrounding area over time.
I had a 180 in-wall tank, the back of it being in the mechanical room of a brand new house.
Within 3 years the gas pipes and duct work were showing surface rust. I attribute this mainly to a period of time where the ATO was not functioning properly leading to a LOT of micro bubbles being injected into the tank (by the return pump) when the water level dropped in the return section of the pump.

I had a 125g tank as a sump in the basement for 5 or 6 years. Its a small ranch of less than 1200sf so it's not huge basement. A dehumidifier runs 24/7. I got corrosion on the heat ducts that were within 6-8 ft of the tank.

Its an unfinished basement but we had an area rug and couch along with a fabric clothes storage rack to keep dust off and had no issues.
We Also have piles of totes like these and again no issue.
