Yes, that's the problem with approaching the issue by water change.

80% sg = 1.016 + 20% sg = 1.023 = 1.0174

If you top off that same 20% with sg = 1.023 (which I know takes longer) you get to 1.0206

So fill the back of the tank with salt water?

Whatever you do it replace water that evaporates, use new salt water instead of fresh water.

I sure hope so. Be very wary of the LFS since their ultimate goal is to make money, while we have far more accumulated expertise and have no agenda to push. many products sold at LFS will not do what they claim.

I’ll remember that, they drilled in my head to never use salt water to top off a tank.

Well, that is good advice, EXCEPT when you want to raise salinity, in which case it is the best answer in most situations.
