Have you taken a serious look at the AI Prime? With the excellent innovation that AquaIllumination brings to all of their lighting comes this GEM of a light! The Prime has built-in Wi-Fi, is fully controllable from your mobile device (no controller needed), and has full spectrum and adjustability (something you've come to expect from AI).

...but don't take our word for it. Check out this great video from @MarineDepot to see how this thing works!

Personally, I would recommend one per 12" of tank length. I have 5 on a 60" and love them. I'm not having any issues growing whatever I want. Here's a couple of quick videos of mine with them on there:

Great looking tank! What's the width coverage and penetration depth.

What made you go with the primes instead of Hydra 26s or 52s

Ironically I had 3 Hydra 52's originally on this tank... transferred from my old tank. This was before they came out with the HD's. The Primes use different pucks than the standard 26/52's... I could not get the same spectrum with the 52's as I do the Primes. I also like the small form factor of the Primes.

The new HDS aren't that much different from the prime though right?

The HD's are closer to the Primes than the old 52's.
  • The Primes use Deep Blue and Blue
  • HD's use Royal Blue and Blue
  • 52's use Royal Blue and Very Deep Blue
