These little guys come in a myriad of colors. I’ve seen patterned, black stripes, even bright orange. They are soft coral predators that silently kill your octocorals (soft corals and gorgonians).

I’ve kept tiger cowries in my reefs but they are like a bulldozer being driven by a blind guy. Never had a problem with coral predation. Would love to get a few if the guys in your picture but if one ate my zoas ild have to go medieval on it.

Cowrie don't prey on any kind of coral as far as I know. Just the false cowrie.


Edited to add, I'm pretty sure the one I photographed is a flamingo tongue but don't hold me to that.

Nope I was wrong it's a Margined Egg Cowrie (just found the photo).
