My 55 gallon tank had been running for 2 years I have always wanted a maderin goby I think I am ready because a see copopods (hope that is spelled right). In my sand bed and there is some in my filtration system. Any suggestions on getting one

From my experience mandarins are tough I have had a half dozen or so over a couple years time and finally I have a long lived surviver . I have a plentiful supply of pods in my 135 but I am pretty safe to say mine is also eating frozen food too . I thought I was safe to get another one "male" because my female is doing so well for so long but even after about a month of him staying alive and even doing mating dances with the female he did not make it . Imo if you can find one that already eats frozen you are set . I found frozen reef plankton to be the best for me to get her eating frozen . They are beautiful fish with out a doubt good luck

As long as your tank is mature and you have a good supply of copepods you should have no problem keeping a Mandarin. They're not expensive. I would also occasionally add copepods so the popuation doesn't decrease.
My mandarin has been in the tank about 2 years and only eats copepods, can't get him to eat anything else... He's doing great.

I think it's worth trying to find one that already eats frozen/prepared food. Obviously they can live on pods alone but there is an awesome sense of security that I get when I see mine hunting Black Jack Reef Crack.

I got real lucky or that is what I have been told. Mine eats small sinking pellets along with the copepods. He searches the bottom for the pellets when I feed.
