I’d love to see a nice colony pic of Merlin’s Staff under 10k. It is the most purple thing in my tank.

Although most rainbow teniuses don’t look great under whites, I’ve always been a big fan of Walt Disney and SCOP under 14k.

I like this idea, and I also am curious if there's a better way to incorporate a search-type function. In it's current format (basically a screenshot of a spreadsheet, w/ photos copied/pasted in) it's not really searchable in a meaningful way on this webpage/thread.

Wonder if I could put additional details (including the one's you mention) in an excel table that is filterable, attach the spreadsheet to this thread. This way, someone could search the table for say, all listed corals with green polyps. Or all corals with ORA lineage. Although I think some/many (including myself) that individual colors of stalks, bases, coralites, polyps will shift in unique ways that are individual to systems, lighting, flow, nutrients, etc.

In this case, something might be better than 'nothing' so let me experiment a bit, and see if we can come up with something usable, and then improve from there.

We can start with a shared google doc spreadsheet to keep it simple for now. The pics would be links to either here at reef2reef or some other page but it'll be nice to keep it fast. I do work in IT and can help set this up if you need assistance.

Hey @Philrock - sorry. I thought you were trying to get us riled up here but reading back through your posts while trying to catch up on things, I realized your posts were made in 'good faith' (not that anyone couldn't post whatever they want here anyway). I want you to know my (removed) comment wasn't made in ill-spirit to a relatively new reefer (seems like you're figuring things out well), and thanks for jumping in and looking around.

FYI (I think you got it now), SPS are (while there are a handful of LPS species that fit the description) stony corals with small polyps that grow in bush, branch, plate, tabling, (and sometimes encrusting) forms. "Full spectrum" loosely translates to 'white' colored light, as some reefkeepers prefer this look to the typical blue-heavy lighting. Many of the corals that look really good under blue lights look terrible under white lighting. Here we're making a list for others to reference of the ones that look really good under white lighting.

If it hasn’t been said already, Pretty much anything that was popular circa 2000-2010 would qualify as “good looking at full spectrum” I’d say.

Great idea on the google doc w/ built-in links. I'm a wiz w/ Excel - is the gdocs interface a quick learn? Some help would be great. Anything you send my way I'll make sure to post the appropriate credit. Gimme a few to catch up with updating the picbase w/ new pics. Takes longer than you'd think, by the time you make cross-board changes to the spreadsheet, convert to image, and upload/reupload here :)

Keep posting, I'll get caught up in a while... For anything without a species (or alias, flow + light level,etc) I'm doing some obligatory google recon as I update so it takes a bit longer for each entry than you'd think. Either way chipping away between work and a 4 mo old!

Yes! Both classics and beautiful corals. ORA's Pink Stylo is one of the ones I was also hoping to see pop up here. The Stylos are especially nice to break up the standard acro shapes as the colonies grow out, on top of it all.
