This breaks my heart! Andrew and his team at Polo Reef give so much to this hobby and are very kind people. Speaking as someone who was able to see this masterpiece in person. Two pumps/valves failed and caused over 10,000 gallons of water to back flow out of the tank in the middle of the night. This will be a long journey ahead of them. I have no doubt they will get it back up to what it was before.

😥

Just a roadblock in the reefing journey, corals can be regrown. I'd be the saddest over the loss of fish.

These folks provide so much information and inspiration to all of us, everyone should support Polo Reef in some way, go to their website and buy a hat, shirt or whatever, just as a show of support.

I'm reading into it now more because all this time I thought he was just a rich guy that has a giant tank. This is a genuine question that I'm sure people more deeply vested into the hobby can answer, what has Andrew Sandler and/or Polo Reef provided for the hobby?

Does lots of research about fish and coral care to advance the hobby.

TONS of very scientific research and his team has academically published. It's not just a 'big' tank. The guy has a genuine love for everything reef.

Geez that hurts to see.

I'm an engineer by trade with 20+ years in the manufacturing industry and a RCFA, if one were to ever be published, would be incredibly beneficial to not only reef keepers, but also to other technical professionals if it boiled down to something like controls or process. I would love to help with it if that ever presented itself.

Keep your chins up, Andrew and Polo Reef!

Part of the team of people he employs includes staff vets and researchers. He is funding research into not very well understood coral diseases, treatments, etc. He also sponsors great informative podcasts like "Rappin' with ReefBum".

Research/advice, opens up his home to hobbyists, make-a-wish, and schools for tours, donates a large amount of money to nonprofits and reef conservation, and shares his passion and love of the hobby all over the internet!

Sorry for the loss. Such a magnificent system with lots of love. Hard to find large colonies of Coral. It will take time to rebuild. If I was still connected with collectors I would help. Unfortunately, no longer the case.

Wow. That's insanity. 10,000 gallons spill is just plain nuts. Goes to show that no system is truly fail safe. Murphy's Law right?
The amount of money lost in that tank from all those rare fish alone is hard to imagine.

:( Super sad event. I wish him all of the best in the rebuild and clean up. I can't even imagine how much work it's going to be.

I've always been curious about this. Can you link some of those papers? I would love to read their work!

What a way to start the year. Hearing this is so sad and heart breaking. Andrew had rare exclusives fish we can only wish we had. I don’t know a guy more passionate than him. When Andrew ready to share what happened I’m sure we all will learn something. People are probably saying he’s has plenty of money. But Andrew feeling bad for fishes and coral lives. Wishing Polo reef the best of luck and as much minimum loss ahead. After watching Andrew I know he ‘ll be back better than ever.

Andrew, all of us who respect and admire your work (video-content) are incredibly sorry for this devastating event! Oddly, we can all feel your pain to at least 'some' degree if we have experienced equipment failure-- at least to the extent we can truly empathize. I know you will show great resilience and strength of character as you and your dedicated team pull through this.
