The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Can anyone help me with an ID? I've totally forgotten the name of this fish; remember that it's wrasse-like but not truly a wrasse. TIA!

Bodianus bimaculatus. Its a very small species of hogfish. One of the few reef safe ones. Great addition!

BTW hogfish are true wrasse. They are just the least wrasse of all the wrasse as they are the first break off in the family Labridae

Too much rock for a leopard wrasse?

This is 2/3 of my tank, I heard some people just fill a corner for them (and they’ll find it). but even if I just raised the sand everywhere I have a lot of platform rock to the point I’m questioning my conch. The other side is more sand but I hope for trachy / scoly.

thats perfect for a leopard! Plenty of sand to dig into and even more rock to play around and hunt with!

So they don’t need a wide sand bed? Just thick enough? I thought maybe I didn’t have enough floor and didn’t want them bashing their head

Raspberry wrasse. Anybody know the scientific name? Trying to find out compatability with my current wrasses.

Nope! I have 6(?) sand sleeping wrasse - anyone able to confirm (I’ve lost count of my wrasses 🤣). Anyway, I have about 6 sand sleepers in my 5 footer and I probably have less sand than you do, it’s just deeper - in some areas it’s about 4 inches in others it’s less than a few centimetres

I think my stock list for my 5 footer is finally up to date, but there’s probably a missing one on there - likely one of my rock dwellers

OH! I’ve missed my Dottyback!

Mine was very aggressive towards similar looking wrssses, orange back, yellow flank so I had to trade it away. Even after a few days in an acclimation box. I was able to purchase this yellow band……which is similar looking, but not as aggressive.
