The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Not to be a wet blanket but what do you do when the smaller one transitions and they fight? Has anyone had a pair of cirrhilabrus do well long-term unless in a monster-sized tank? They usually live in harems to allow submales to survive and spread the aggression. I have an outstanding order with my lfs for a pair of jordani and will likely split them up.

If that happens will split them. I had a pair before for over 2 yrs without any problems.

Video quality got butchered unfortunately, but my wife took a video of the fish eating. You can see the wrasses go to town on mysis. This is their 4th feeding of the day though, so not quite as hungry as this morning.

Moyeri, it looks relatively small so I’d say female.

Judging by the size of the dottyback? I would also say a small female.

They are in a 100 gallon tank with clowns goby and Midas blenny. I need to transfer them to there permanent home with others. I am not looking forward to that. Have 4 other wrasse to add with them. Last two are the trouble makers flame and rhomboid on last chance.

You know where you can send the flame if you have problems.

I’m pretty sure my pink streak is a mature adult now as the blues weren’t in his fins originally (When I got him his fins were clear and he had no colour at all, this was back in 2021). My radiant is definitely looking to be transitioning, I guess we’ll see if my jade allows it (So far they’ve both allowed eachother to get to the transitional phase).

Ha that list is long. It was a gift to me so if it doesn’t work it probably will go back to my friend. It won’t go to the highest bidder as it’s new home is more important and I want to be able to keep track of him.

Whar's the secret? Do you guys do anything special to get your fairy or flasher wrasses in particular to take on such great coloring? I'm looking at a diamond tail flasher and hoping to get the best out of its colors!

First off you just hit the top flasher with a Diamondtail. Good size, great color and I’m a sucker for wrasse with Diamond tails.
Have a few fairy/flashers and color will come. More confident the wrasse is with others color will be better. How to get them to turn male I’m not sure as mine turn fast and young. My guess is having many wrasse in small tank. They all compete to be king.

How big of a tank? I would but a list of wrasse you want and add them close together. Get females and smaller. Females get along better with other wrasse and joy to watch transition. Also young smaller wrasse ship, acclimate, and adjust to new tanks better. They also tend to take billing when added to tank better.

As for helping color I’ll say it’s food. Feed healthy food and keep them fat. I use selcon in frozen. Not sure if it helps but my friends all say my fish have great color idk
