I got a call last night!!!!!

My not so local FS got a chaoti in! He sent me a pic from it in a bag. looked quite healthy and fat. Might have to take a drive today to check it out. He is holding it for me @ $200. If I do not want it, he will return my deposit. If I do end up taking it, I need to drop down another $300.

With my current wrasse situation(melagris being a ****** to the moyers), I'm not sure I want to risk it, but I just may have to.

The chasing has somewhat subsided. The melagris will allow the moyers to be out and about now, but every once in a while it seems the chase is back on.

If it was me then I’d personally swap out the meleagris for the choati quite happily. Wonder if the chasing is due to a transitional male meleagris and Moyer?

No idea if the melagris is transitioning. It is still very small, sub 2". The moyers is also still very small at around the same size. Would think at this size, they would still both be females? I do know my last melagris, didn't start the transition until it was around the 3" mark.

if the melagris doesn't stop chasing, it might get switched out. Just hate the thought of having to rip my reef apart again. >.<. Love the look of the "spotted" leopards. so the melagris might get switched out for a blue star, or perhaps an ornate?

All this depends on what the chaoti looks like when I get there later today. Also has a kuiteri(sp?) in stock. My holding fee will cover the kuiteris if I decide the chaoti isn't worth the risk for the price.

If you get the choati not sure I would get an ornate. They can be a bit aggressive. By the way your Melagris sounds you should be ok. Lfs is a bit high on price but it is what it is. I would try and knock that price down as you can get them qt’ed and conditioned for 400. Sometimes we need to keep lfs happy lol

This is the kind of LFS that is "boutique esque" , but has been in business since the late 70's and really knows their stuff. Yes some of his prices are a bit high, but this is the kind of place I don't mind giving my money to, to support them.

If the fish is fat and healthy, and hes adamant on the price, I won't mind paying it just to support this store.

Absolutely agree here, I paid over the odds for a blue star leopard wrasse from a trusted LFS that got it eating first and it was absolutely worth it. The wrasse took to pellets literally the first day I had it in, acclimated very quickly, and has been a joy to have since. What some consider an "expert level" fish has been simple as can be to care for these past 5 months so far!

Absolutely agree here, I paid over the odds for a blue star leopard wrasse from a trusted LFS that got it eating first and it was absolutely worth it. The wrasse took to pellets literally the first day I had it in, acclimated very quickly, and has been a joy to have since. What some consider an "expert level" fish has been simple as can be to care for these past 5 months so far!

Wrasse are most misunderstood fish. They aren’t to bad but takes a different approach. They got a bad reputation from people not understanding them like pit bulls

This better. Let the wrasse settle in after shipping. I always leave my fish for a week after buying at the lfs. I have a pair of sunburst anthias that have been there 2 weeks until they start eating aggressively.

+1 to this, also if possible you could possibly try get your LFS to stay on watch for it (As you have done so). My LFS is currently trying to hunt down another Flashing tilefish for me and they have so far gotten similar species to the chlupatyi. They reserve the species till I see it then if I pass I won’t take it. I haven’t taken any of the 3 tilefish they offered previously but the two luteus were hard to pass on.

That’s great news - I think I got extremely lucky with my LFS as I am able to reserve certain fish without needing to put down money. Most of the time I will put down money for the fish though.

I've done that with this LFS too, but with the high price of the fish, I think he just wants to make his money back, and be certain I actually want it.

It's certainly not a fish most people would just walk into an LFS and plop down the money for it.

This, my importer doesn't ask due to the longtime relationship, and my local LFS is a mixed bag on a deposit. The rarer the fish is, the more they ask. Usually 50% of retail cost, that's fully refundable is the max.

I want to say its a whip fin fairy wrasse, but hopefully the experts can chime in. Got it as a freebie with a coral order.

You are correct, this is a whipfin fairy wrasse male.

Not as white light as id like, but I got this guy last week. Couldn't remember if I posted it or not, ended up being busy the second half of the week until today.

+1 whip fin fairy wrasse... one of the most aggressive of the fairy wrasses. Keep a close eye on this guy if you have other fairy wrasses or flasher wrasses.

Does anyone have any experience with Madagascar Flasher Wrasses? I've been in love with this wrasse for forever now and I managed to get one reserved- it's set to come in around 2 weeks from now. But given it's a relatively newer species to be available to hobbyists, their specific care requirements aren't listed anywhere, from what I've found at least. I figured I'd probably just approach it like a standard flasher wrasse in terms of feeding, for example, but wasn't sure if anyone had any experience with them and their care?

For two years mine looked unhappy and colors weren’t great until I moved him to a tall 6’ tank. He is about 6” now. They need a lot of room. Behavior is like others. He will hold his ground to bully’s then sulk on sand bed. Enjoy
