The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

Going to pick out a wrasse tomorrow and can use some help. I have a 60 gal reef tank. Currently have some chromis, striped blenny, pj cardinal, baby clown, and a diamond watchman goby.

Debating between McCosker’s Flasher Wrasse, Carpenter’s Flasher Wrasse, or a Yellow Coris Wrasse. What do I choose?!?!

Yellow Coris all the way… mine is one of my favorite fish. He’s gorgeous and super active. You just need to make sure you have a sandbed because they sleep under the sand. The flasher wrasses will find a nook instead and would be a better option is you don’t have a sandbed. If you go with the yellow coris, don’t be alarmed if he hides for the first few days.

The Jawfish did… my Yellow Coris was checking him out and quickly realized that the Jawfish did not want to be his friend. :)

+1 Halichoeres all the way.
I don’t own a Yellow coris but own a different species with a very similar behaviour to them (Halichoeres iridis). The yellow coris when it matures will look stunning - I finally got to see a mature male in person a few weeks ago and it was a stunner, just a shame I have two transitional males at home.

Yes he is. I got him as a small 2” juvi two years ago and now he’s pushing 6” and still growing.

Hello Wrasse Lovers!!!

Quick question on wrasse compatibility. I am Looking at adding to my current wrasse stock (75g-4ft) ;
- Menlanarus
- Cebu/Indo lubbocki
- McCosker Flasher

Would I be ok to add these two now…
- Golden Rhomboid (Cirrhilabrus rhomboidal)
- Exquisite (Indo - Cirrhilabrus exquisitus)

…and a Pintail (Cirrhilabrus isosceles) when I see one again.

Any guidance/input would be greatly appreciated.

They would work just fine! Got any photos of the current lubbocki? I could help you out on which variant it is.

Awesome. Now I’m getting excited. I haven’t added anyone for quite a while. Now it’s time to cross my fingers that they are still available …. and they ship fine.

I’ll try to grab a picture tomorrow…but I always struggle with that. I think I actually used one of your pictures to identify it. It was sold to me as a juvenile exquisite which I questioned at the time.

Hopefully you can get your new wrasse(s)! They’re all of seperate complexes and aren’t from too closely related complexes so you should be just fine (Not that I can really say much about sticking to certain complexes haha).

Here’s the best photos I could find of my two. Still find it hard to pick a favourite and I don’t think I could have a wrasse gang without Atleast one of them.

Good eye one of my favorite angels had a pair in my last setup had to get at least one back. May get a lineatus this week.

I’m pretty sure it’s a Yellowfin flasher wrasse.

Agree. But looks like a mix yellowfin and carpenters. It’s tail doesn’t look yellow and two Filaments but has yellow anal fin and red spot on dorsal where the filaments extend.

Edit. On phone with bad eyes. I roomed it and clearly only one filament. Yellowtail is my answer lol I need glasses.

He had a day or two of chasing by my splendid pintail and exquisite fairy wrasses, but now they all get along great. He's got some spunk, considering he's about half the size of the two fairies!

Thank you both for your help, I definitely agree now that I've had him for a little while and compared him to some more pictures. He had a day or two of chasing by my splendid pintail and exquisite fairy wrasses, but now they all get along great. He's got some spunk, considering he's about half the size of the two fairies!

Here are some better photos of those 3 and my melanurus.

What variant is the exquisite? It looks like an African, possibly a newly transitioned one due to the caudal spot.

Hopefully the flasher keeps those two fairies in colour and they don’t begin to fade.

I don't know, and neither did my LFS when I asked them. They said their supplier doesn't specify the location it was collected from. I am super curious what it will look like as it continues to mature!
