The Wrasse Lover's Thread!

T.quinquevittatum definitely deserve their name. This fish is the fastest wrasse i've ever seen and are very adept at harassing larger fish. The poor lutescens just couldn't handle the speed. Other than that he wasn't *too* bad with the other wrasses in the tank, just a bit of chasing here and there and is otherwise a very pretty fish. I can only imagine what a larger female or a male would be like, probably pound for pound worse than T.lunare.

Cant wait to bring my baby home.

Guess who’s with the big boys now!

The Flame Back isn’t coming out without tearing the rocks apart (which as much as I would love to get that angel out, my corals are too happy to mess with). So for now, we have 3 angels and 13 wrasses. The Multicolour addition seems to have distracted the Flame Back a ton as he isn’t going for the wrasses as badly and focused the majority of his aggression towards the new Dwarf.

Took a few more photos today, more focusing on the Brunneus and look at these two cracking photos I got! Plus a bonus of the Exquisitus.

What a lovely thing to wake up to in the morning :(
I hate mystery deaths, especially when it's a rare deepwater fish that costs a ton of money. It was completely fine last night, eating, swimming and there was no aggression from any of my wrasses. A bit of chasing from my angels, but they do that to every fish and have never killed another fish before. Absolutely gutted

He wasnt that dark in the LFS! Infact he was brown. But as you can imagine, I trusted my gut and got him to end up with the darkest brunneus I’ve ever seen.

Was it maybe aggression from the other hogs you just didn’t see it?
Such a shame when it’s an unknown death, just don’t look too far into it as you could drive yourself insane doing that :)

There's no other hogfish, but if you mean other wrasses then no. I was watching up until lights went out the night before i found it dead and none of the wrasses bothered it. My lightning was really the only aggressive wrasse in the tank and i took him out when i added the hogfish. I think i know who did it, probably my large six bar angel who's super aggressive and basically the only fish that continues to harass others once the moonlights switch on. I caught him today and i'll probably sell or give it away. He was really mean to everything in the tank

Sorry for loss. Chasing is all it takes. Even just a hovering fish close by will stress and kill some wrasse quick. Also many won’t be aggressive with us by the tank

Look at this little guy! He's probably only an inch and a half and already transitioning to make!

Sure is skinny though.

I think he's too big for my tank. I was definitely avoiding. Skinny and exhibiting like he has flukes. His face was very pinched also.

Also missing scales.

Its also the species that is the most aggressive wrasse I've ever owned. Absolute monster

Noted! Avoiding all future hortulanus! Speaking of, I wonder if that's how he got his name... :thinking-face:

They also had a skinny Orange Spot Rabbit, a SUPER skinny Harptail Blenny, and a skinny Tailspot Blenny all in a tank with a fatty Sailfin Tang with Ich.

I'm not planning on buying anything today from this store for sure.
