I'm having an issue with my Pylei fairy wrasse. It is the Cebu variant. When I bought it, it seemed to be in the transition phase from female to male. I figured it would continue to change into a male, but now the black on its tail is gone completely and the black dot on its dorsal is slowly fading. The bright blue striping has also started to fade. Is this because its a lone wrasse? It is the boss of the tank and makes sure everyone else knows that.

Yes, it is because it is the lone wrasse that the color is fading, but be careful.adding another wrasse as the Cebu pylei can be aggressive toward other fairy and flasher wrasses. If tou do decide to add more consider an acclimation box and multiple wrasses to let him calm down and to diffuse aggression. If you decide not to add a wrasse a mirror against the glass should do the trick as he will think there is a rival in the tank.

Thank you very much. I'm going to try the mirror approach for now and will wait till I can upgrade to a larger tank to get more wrasses.

What a sad day. Came home to see my perfectly healthy Potter wrasse lying stuck in between the frag rack and the tank dead
