Well... I think I can no longer suggest Naoko, again there is something off about this wrasse and I suspect it's early UNWD. I wonder if it's something to do with the distributer my LFS uses. This is my third attempt and never had success.

It's a shame as I've been enjoying having a trio of fairies.
@kingranch2003 just lost his this weekend as well. Suspect UNWD based off the symptoms his was exhibiting.

See Tim's post as he beat me to it.

Glad to see you took the high road Chris.

Could have gone in a lot of directions.

I didn't know anything about UNWD until this weekend. Now I'm constantly looking at my Pintail Wrasse. So far so good. Sorry to hear about these losses and also sad that such beautiful fish have such an unexplained potential issue.

Sorry to hear about the recent troubles with these beauties. Looking back I’ve had at least 2 possibly 3 with the same condition in the past- red fin, Lubbock , and McCoskers. My other two long term wrasses that j had a Mel and Leopard had no issues.

It seems to only affect flashers and fairies and in my case only Naoko fairy.

I can't believe I hadn't ran across your tank. You have a lot of nice stuff in there. By the way, I'm in Atlanta as well (near Atlanta anyways).
He also has a beautiful pond in his backyard. Well, it could be beautiful if someone closeby gave him a kick in the pants. <cough...cough...>

How hard of a kick?
My pond does not need a Jackson Pollock of my blood in front of it to be beautiful! It does need a better filter and some dredging though maybe...

Thanks man. My tank is pretty packed already. There’s going to be a lot of war when things grow up some more. Same here if you see something you like in my tank. I can save a piece for you when I start trimming.

Uhh
It’s a box with some sponges and a pump…
Aah, pond size?

I spent considerable time last year building out this ~375g turtle pond for a client…

We ended up landing on this monstrosity for filtration:

IMG_7869.jpeg

It’s basically just a canister full of sponges with a UV sterilizer… but, it has a feature worth it’s weight in gold: backflush capability!

You can flip that diverter valve on the far center to start backflushing the sponges to environment, and crank that funny little crank to physically spin all the sponges inside the housing, ensuring you get them thoroughly blown free of detritus before switching the diverter valve back to regular operation! (And yes, I cut all the undersized barbs on each fitting off to omit flow restriction, the whole thing’s plumbed in 1.5”)

— I just hook up 1.5” tubing and pipe/switch to backflush and do massive water changes through the pressure filter these days… oh, and the filter itself/the water garden fill plumbing is hiding under that fake rock in the high corner!

I actually have a pretty high end and large pond filter with UV and pump that I ran when I was in Arizona. Kept water crystal clear. I Kept it in case I do another pond, but not sure if I ever will. It’s an Oase BioSmart Gravity Filter system with big pump and UV. Been in storage since I moved here.
