9B8DDBA2-31A8-476A-84AC-BA5573128690.jpeg Thought since reefing is inherently expensive at times. And there are threads on threads of the newest gizmo. How about a thread. On things that cost you nothing.

Above is an Old redbull shelf holding some food and testing equipment. (I make my own pellets for my autofeeder, the containers have assorted ingredients)

Would love to see others “free” items.

If you join a reef club (if you’re lucky enough to have lots of reefers in your area), you get free things all the time. I’ve gotten Salifert kits, fish, corals, lights and much more. I also return the favor to my fellow reefers and give things away.

If your near me you wind up with free frags all the time lol I usually wind up paying for everything Haha. But I do alot of diy stuff so that saves me alot of money. I.made my own overflow box for a bean animal drain. Made my own sump from a trashed 75g acrylic tank. Made my frag tank stand from leftover wood from some framing work I did. So it all works out.

I agree. I've ended up with lights, rock, sand, salt, etc. Like you, I also try hard to pay it forward.

The only thing I can think of that I use, and is free, might be the most important thing...

Patience ;)

...but with patience I am always think about the opportunity cost! :)

Yeah, BUT that’s ok because that gives me an excuse for another hobby (see username)!!! I suppose it’s circular in that way for me :p

I think one or two of my 7 gallon aquarium buckets were homebrew buckets and the racking tube is now used for the reef. Some of my carbon bags might have held hops.

The only thing I've ever gotten for free was some GSP :(

I can't give enough GSP or Kenya Trees away. It's to the point I'm working on a condiment that consists of GSP & Kenya trees - To the FDA - "it's a oregano substitute"

My labor is free aside from that nothing else in this hobby comes close to that

I scored like-newReef Octopus 150INT (body only) for free at a GARAGE SALE!! The home owner said it was in a pile of stuff her son left behind after moving out. She laughed when I told what it was because she secretly thought it was a bong!:D All it needed was a new pump (80 bucks). Will be setting up on my 90g. Build currently in progress. I am still giddy about that find.

Those little plastic cards that the credit companies send FREE all of the time come in handy. I clean the ATS screen, my acrylic sump, and any corner or crevice that's otherwise hard to get to with one. The curved edges are great for cleaning around silicone seals. And if it ever wears out, there's always another one coming in the mail.

What happens if the fish send in that application and start using that credit card though?

Hey... We're in the same club

Yeah. That can happen. I now have a kole tang that is working part time at PetSmart to pay off his credit card debt.
The biggest problem is that I have 50 pounds of nori to store and a little rubber anemone.?
