So I bought my first fish about 2 weeks ago. The Royal Gramma had been at the LFS for over 2 months the guy said and I had seen him there at least a month so I don't doubt this, but now it seems he has tiny white spots on his tail and rubs himself against the rock.

The black clownish I bought last week came from the same LFS and tank. I haven't seen anything on him, but he swims into the high flow rate nearly all day.

Readings are 8.4 PH, 1.026 salinity and 0pmm on the ammonia/nitrate/nitrites.

If I don't want to use copper based medication what are my alternatives?

Pictures would help… how about hyposalinity? Need to be in a hospital tank for all fish while the tank goes fallow.
I would be happier though with a firm diagnosis first…
