So, I have my new 180 up and running and I have stocked it with a nice variety of fish. One problem I have is that the Domino Damsel is nearly invisible against the black background on my tank. If he didn't have white spots, I would hardly see him at all... lol.

What do you all feel makes the fish colors pop better? Blue or black? This will be a FOWLR setup, no corals in this tank.

Edit: forgot to add the stock list...

I have:
1 Picasso Trigger
1 Scopas Tang
1 Naso Tang
2 Yellotail Blue Damsels
1 Domino Damsel
1 Sunshine Chromis
1 Talbot's Damsel
1 3 stripe Damsel
1 6 line Wrasse

Plan to add in next few weeks:
1 Clown Trigger
Possibly a couple dottybacks
1 Hippo Tang

What do you think?

I am not sure.. the blue seems to take away the illusion of depth to me. It also makes the equipment stand out more. Who don't they make equipment in a similar shade of blue for those who choose blue backgrounds?

On the positive side, the blue REALLY makes the fish stand out!!

Well I already have the equipment so I am just going to have to deal with the contrast. I had always planned on the black till I got the Domino Damsel and all I could see was the white spots moving around.. lol

In all honesty, I think I actually prefer the blue. It makes ALL of the colors of the fish just pop. The yellows are brighter, the blues in the Picasso seem brighter, and the blacks in the damsels contrast better. The dark browns of the Scopas and Naso also contrast better.

Mine is see through but the wall behind it is blue.
That fish is almost all black. Lol! I can see that getting missed with a black background. Lol!

Right? The Domino is all black save for the white spots.

So its been a half hour or so since I changed to the blue. I see a LOT more movement in the tank now, which was my goal for this tank since the moment I started the build. I think with the black, the fish stayed closer to the back wall as to remain hidden. Now, with the blue, they are swimming much more out in the open.
