You realize tangs swim miles a day in the ocean right? Thats why this is a common recommendation on tank size.
While I'm sure this is true if one uses that logic to determine tank size no tang should ever be kept in an aquarium or in captivity period.

Yeah agreed, I was more pointing out that they need length for swimming room. Probably could have worded it better 😂

Not going to lie, I think you were the only one who actually picked up on that message because even after that tang police continued to try and argue about why its not feasible rather than just giving me an idea of what would work best.
I'll likely end up with either a two spot/blue eyed bristletooth or another zebrasoma of some sort since my yellow tang is pretty mellow, I'm not concerned about him being a bully. When I originally bought him, the LFS had a purple tang in to and we were debating getting both of them, we put the purple into the same tank as the yellow and watched for about an hour and the yellow could have cared less for it. Not saying im getting a purple, if I do get another zebrasoma it would likely be a scopas or im balling out and getting a gem or black tang

Not what I said, you just seem to want to argue with people who are giving you solid advice about your current tank. Im pointing out that multiple tangs in a small tank (a 4 foot tank) is crowded for a fish that swims that much. You already know you will have to get rid of the hippo tang or upgrade for it. If what you have now is working why crowd them with another tang? Tangs are notorious for fighting each other when it comes to space and food. Recipe for disaster if you ask me. Wait until you upgrade. Trust me, learned that the hard way.

Here to follow up that my purple and hippo are both getting too large for my 4’ tank in only a year and a half. I’m planting the seeds for the 8’ 240. Just got to let them grow 😂

Ryan is kinda a big deal. And he wrote an outstanding answer to the question.
He wasnt interested in professional advice. He just wanted to be told he is right to add another tang. His mind was made up before the post was made and come hell or highwater he will cram another tang into that tank! 😂 Experience is a dear teacher.

I appreciated his advice; he didn't just straight up tell me it was impossible like half the other people in the thread he gave me solid tips to successfully keep another tang in the tank

Not gonna lie... this looks like chatgpt
I’ll take that as a compliment. 🙂

For what it’s worth, after producing thousands of reefing videos over the last 20 years that have probably been scraped by AI, it’s more likely that ChatGPT sounds like me. LOL.

Am nearly certain of it. 😂 I have seen your videos pop up a ton. Some of my favorite actually. Can see your passion and love for what you do shine through.

I think most of us have come to the forums looking for confirmation bias at some point. Five pages of responses, ignoring the 98% saying “don’t do it,” and just searching for the one person who agrees with what we already want to do… LOL.

Most of us stop doing that once we learn how often it leads to failure.

Sometimes you think you know better than the chef, other times you have to end up in the ER before you really believe the stove is hot.

I get it. No one was trying to crash the party or pop any bubbles, just giving the most sound advice on the subject with the most clear reasoning we can to help you have the best experience possible. If I wanted to watch the world burn Id tell you to get a baby vlamingi tang. 😈🤣

Ryan gave sound advice for your situation and was empathetic to your desire for another tang. I had a 4ft reef myself before and kept a wild Hawaiian yellow that grew larger than my hand. I was just advising from experience with them. Lots of beautiful fish in the sea. Tang gangs need space to be tangs and that means larger systems. I hope your experience is a pleasant exception though I tend to plan for things in life not going perfect. Id rather be pleasantly surprised than disappointed.
