Did you guys ever watch whale wars? You realize sea Shepard is the same people right...these people are very very extreme. They will endanger divers and destroy their personal property. Removing of a regulator is really not that big of a deal, anyone who dives knows that is one of the first things you learn to deal with. It is not going to float away, and guess what else...every diver has two regulators.

The individual that removed her mouth piece could not be sure she would not panic and do an uncontrolled ascent.

You'll be changing your tune once the fisherman start posting the videos of what they are going through like they said they are going to do in the article nana posted. If you are going to panic from losing your regulator you shouldn't be diving, it happens more often than you think from other divers not paying attention and knocking it out. If it was me I would have filled her buoyancy vest with air and sent her uncontrollably floating to the surface...oooohh. In the response article the diver said their was 6-8 sea Shepard people at his boat. I would not consider this an act of violence, this is more like a leave me alone warning. The collectors need some sort of way to defend themselves from these fanatics...what do you propose they do?

You guys are falling for this power play by sea Shepard, they are trying to paint collectors out as bad people. Any experienced diver knows this lady was not in any danger at all. If she was in real trouble do you think he would have watched her die, I doubt it.

I have been diving for 20 years, that gives me enough insight to know things go wrong and the dangers of uncontrolled ascents.

I propose the coral collector act like I expect everyone else to act in a civilized society, not resort to physical violence on a another human. I expect the same from Sea Shepherd.

I kind of doubt a 53 year old women posed enough of a threat at that moment to warrent such foolish action from another diver.

Loving nature is cool. Some get a bit overzealous about it. They can take all their frustrations in life and focus them on one issue.

In all my readings, the aquarium trade has not been mentioned among the top threats to the longevity, well-being, and biodiversity of our reefs.

Seems like the environmentalists and collectors should work together, as they both essentially want the same thing: healthy reefs flourishing with a bountiful blend of reef fish and other sea life. But their inability to work together based upon moral differences weakens their causes.

There was a group of 6-8 of them at his boat and one approaching...you wouldn't feel threatened? How do you propose the divers defend themselves against these people? Sea Shepard does what ever they want to people and their property and then they he upset when people fight back. I am sure the collectors would love some good ideas on how to deal with these people...it is sad because their really is no winner in these types of situations. In the end, somebody will end up severely hurt or worse. This is not a good example of somebody in danger, but things will escalate.

You're absolutely right, and yes I would feel threatened. I hope all parties involved are investigated, but I am not going to condone what the diver did. In the video you can see that the collector is a large adult male, he clearly does not look or act threatened.

I think the best action for the Collectors to do, Is what they said they are going to do get their own cameras and document what the other side of the story Is bc we all know that there Is always two side. if the Sea Shepard's are in fact harassing them and endangering the Collectors let them show themselves for what they are so the world can see I would be more than happy to share the video of the Eco Weirdo Getting Crazy it about time someone sheds light on them.

Regardless of the reasons or motives. And regardless of how routine this situation is. It is still wrong and dangerous to pull someone's reg like that. I've got a lot of dives under my belt as we'll and yes this situation is very routine and common. But that does not give excuse. That person assaulted the other, and in a situation that is arguably "life or death". No matter how skilled you are, there is a big difference in your dive buddy accidentally getting tangled in you reg and someone intentionally pulling your air supply from your mouth.

I'm thinking if this from purely a divers pov. Idk about the agendas at play. There is no excuse for this between divers who understand the consequences at risk.

You know they make a composite glock that is underwater safe. It will fire underwater at the cost of your ear drums. That is a small price to pay for your life though. It has saved my *** in abalone waters, I have never fired it at another human but when they pull a knife and you pull a glock the it the end of the conversation. You do have to break the gun down completely and clean it after every dive. I keep it mainly for sharks not the stupid sea Shepard clowns.
