EDIT 4/24: I am not clear about what the most appropriate and diplomatic way to approach this is. Please, understand that I am just a lowly mushroom collector, and there is just one of me. I do appreciate that this has not evolved into a "For Sale/Wanted" thread. The last thing I want is to come-across appearing rude, but, I am simply unable to adequately address the number of Private Messages I have received concerning this gal. I honestly have no interest in selling this gal or her babies. I have made one of the offspring avaiable via a possible trade in the WTT forum. Beyond that, please accept my apologies for not being able to suffieciently address any interests involving the possible rehoming of the critter(s).

Okay, I'm not even sure I should post this. For the shroom addict, such as myself, this can only create a horrible sense of longing. I do apologize if this creates such a reaction. I happen to have this thing in my tank, and it still hurts me to even look at it. I wake up crying, terrified that it might be gone. I rush in, to check on it. It is still there. My wife comforts me, but I still can not go back to sleep, for fear that the nightmare will resume. The insanity that this thing has put me through is unfair. If you are truly an addict such as myself, trust me, you do not want this thing anywhere near you.

(For the "scientificky" "must categorize" amongst us...Despite all appearances, I don't believe this to be a Neglecta.)

DB, I promise you, no hype thread here. I won't even come back here. I can't even stand to look at it.

That is sic! Where can I get one!

Here is what really, and I mean really, sucks. This is thought to be an Australian piece (Of course, I wasn't there during collection, so I have no way of verifying this. However, I acquired it from an entity I trust entirely...I feel they are one the best in the business. So, take that for whatever it might be worth...of course, with a grain of salt.).

I talk to quite a few people about shrooms (okay, I talk to anyone who will listen, so sue me). Typically I am interested in buying them (no shame there). I have a few of the "Aussies" (alleged Aussies, anyways). I would humbly say that they are all "above average." So, when I do talk to sellers, I frequently ask about the possibility of their acquiring any Australian ones. The response is usually disheartening for me...

I usually get something along these lines: Since mushrooms are frequently overlooked as being "hip" (just note the number of new threads here relative to other forums as evidence that their concerns are warranted), importers don't see them as profitable. So, guess who gets left out when import considerations are being made. Yep, ME. So, it seems that the only way to get them here is when they come in as hitchhikers. So, unfortunately, the answer to your question turns out to be...Australia.

Now, how badly does that suck? It sucks a lot, if you ask me.

I don't even do shrooms man but that is unreal.

It is my foremost goal in life to convince everyone in the hobby to abandon their interests in SPS and LPS corals, and to come over to "this other side."

Then, maybe we could convince the importers to BRING US MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i love to have some of those in my tank. im starting to see that every species of coral that there is out there, there is that one that will make you wish you those in your tank. this is the superman of the shrooms!!!!

I KNOW THIS IS NOT A HYPE THREAD, BUT NOW EVERYBODY WANTS ONE. HOW DO I GET ONE???????????

PLEASE, NOT HERE. SERIOUSLY.

I feel I was involved in getting someone's thread closed down a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't my intention at all, and I still feel badly about it. It was, and is frequently, noted by "the authorities" that these types of discussions have no place here.

I certainly don't want to be rude, or anything of the sort. However, I assured the aforementioned "authorities" that I would do my part in the future. So, here is my best effort at doing my part.

Please, not here.

That is the nicest shroom I have ever seen! The jawbreaker has nothing in it.

This is certainly a valid opinion. I don't see that anyone could make a case against it.

My personal take is this... The two (more if the G.O and M.T.D are different strains) mushrooms are simply different.

I would say that the Jawbreaker (possibly same strain as G.O. and M.T.D....I'm working on getting to the bottom of the matter.) is undoubtedly LOUDER. It is just LOUD. It is so intensely bright that it hurts. I have yet to see an example of another coral type that has the same intensity. I do have other shrooms that rival it, at least in terms of brightness (although they don't have anywhere near the "freak of nature" appeal). But, I've not personally seen another example of a different coral type that reaches this level of intensity.

I would say that this gal is more "classy." It is absolutely more intricate and involved than the Jawbreaker (et al.). However, brightness/intensity is not necessarily its strong point. Yellow, in a Disco.??????????? Yes, that's "freak of nature" appeal. But, overall, there is just something more "classy" about it.

There is my personal take.

You are spot-on, my friend. I was just looking at a "for sale" thread, and someone has posted some Acanthastrea that are just breath-taking. For a brief moment, I considered getting rid of the shrooms and starting an Acan tank. (I quickly came to my senses, though:bigsmile:.) And, I'm not big on mixing the two types of critters. Mushrooms frequently "jump." (I believe this to be a reproductive strategy.) And, free-floating shroom have a tendency to end up in the mouths of greedy LPS corals. So...no Acans for me, at least for now.

But, please go see that thread. Those Acans are ridiculous.

Wow, beautiful shroom. What the grwoth rate on them, and have you tried propagating them? It alwasy seems like the nicest shrooms grow so slow, but the ordinary ones are hard to keep in check.

Man, that things is nice. I'd totally sport that in my tank, haha. I've was trying to get some shrooms in my reef tank before I shut it down for some color around the bottom.

oh no you warned me good & proper but I just had to ignore that & come on in & now I want one sooooo bad I see some babies...............lol beautiful shroom

Yep, that has definitely gone to the top of my list of wants. It's an absolute beauty! Thanks for posting it and I hope it does well in your system so you can spread the love. And I agree on the jawbreakers. I was in shock when I got mine delivered. I always wondered why they were called jawbreakers and I thought the reference was geared towards the candy I used to love as a kid. That thing was so bright, I had to pick my jaw off the floor, hence the name :)

To address your second question first, I don't propagate any of the shrooms via unnatural means. I'm a collector, not really a seller. So, I just let them do their thing. (Admittedly, there is one that I have been tempted to...cough...cut...cough. However, it is my personal favorite, and I'm just WAY TOO SCARED to actually do it. [Now, if that isn't addiction, I don't know what is. I have no intention of selling it, but I want to cut it anyways. I think I should seek help.])

To address your first question, I'm not 100% convinced either way, yet. My knee-jerk response would be "average." Not JB-like slow, but, they aren't "climbing the walls," by any means. So, average might be the appropriate descriptor.

lol that is too funny - Im not much of a shroom person either since i started my tank with watermelons and now i have been working to rid my tank of them...but this one and the jawbreaker are sweet!!!
