Hey all,

I got a leather from a buddy, that was dying. I dipped it in coral RX, and gently scrubbed all the dead black stuff off of it, and put in it my tank.

Here are my questions?

Is it going to recover?
Should I frag what’s left, and hopefully save something from it?

Leathers are pretty tough. I've had them look completely shriveled and gray....but then make a full comeback.

Best it to put in a shadowy place and leave it alone for a good long time.
Like leave it a l o n e :p

It’s at the bottom of a stock light Biocube, that can’t be too much light right?

The Biocube is the newer version, so LED stock light.

I've seen leathers look pretty rough. I've even purposely let a small piece randomly float around the tank and didn't care if it dies. It never did...until it looked just like yours does right now......

Keep us posted :)

Will do! Won’t give up on it. Hopefully it bounces back. Always wanted a good one and that’s what it is.

Ok, after picking it up, I realized how bad it was melting. It fell apart and like 20 pieces flew around the tank.

So I made the executive decision to frag it, to hopefully stop the rot from going to the rest of the coral. I am not sure if this was the right thing to do, but I really didn’t see any other choice.

I dipped the frags in coral RX for 5 mins and put them in mushroom boxes with a small amount of gravel. I also kept the base in hopes it grows back.

Would love feed back even if it’s negative, this is how I learn.

If it disintegrated I doubted the frags would still make it

UPDATE:
It all died. Don’t know what els I could have done. You win some you loss some.

Believe it or not, some of the small frags started showing polyps, but still rotted away.
