You ever get a great idea for a tank and once you start to execute it you realize you've made a terrible mistake?
I decided a few months ago that I was going to do a Caribbean biotope style tank in my living room. Just a 26g Man Nano peninsula. thought "I'll have gorgs and macro algae and some western Atlantic fish. it will be great." My wife and I love going to the Caribbean and snorkeling, so thought we could bring a bit home. Ordered some GLR for extra "freebies" from the area. So far....it's been regret city. I just find it boring. There's very little color in the tank other than the little bit of red macro algae and the fish (Royal Gramma, Neon Goby and a very naughty Molly Miller that got moved over there after nipping lps in my main display). The few photosynthetic gorgs I sourced all just became hair algae magnets and even with cleaning them near daily only 1 has made it. I'm highly considering just moving one of my zoa islands from my main display over to add some color and go full Softy nano here. See if I can get them to soak up the nutrients away from the hair algae. dropped in a Nanomat to help with nutrients and it's going through rolls way too fast, I really with it was more controllable. Gotta find some way to enjoy this tank more since it was a xmas present lol. Luckily I've gone very slow with coral additions and haven't gotten ahead of myself here.
Anyway, how have you handled this type of situation when your "great plan on paper" turned out not so great in realty
