Thoughts on This 1530 Aluminum Stand Design

Hey yall!

I have been looking to DIY an aluminum extrusion stand and came up with the following design:

For the joints, I will be using anchor fasteners to pull the pieces together.

The dimensions are 47 3/4 X 23 1/2 x 36.

Thoughts?

I think it looks fine. Just make sure if you are going to use a sump that you can get it in and out if you need to without having to take it apart.
 
Made a few changes and ordered all the extrusions and hardware!

The main change is moving away from some of the anchor fasteners, and using large gussets on the sides, and adding 45 degree knee bracing on the front and back.

This looks WAY more stout!!

Love it. I am a huge fan of gussets and braces. That will be really hard to rack, set up like that!

Are you going to put anything on the top of the frame between it and the tank?

I have a sheet of neoprene that came with the tank, its about 1/8th inch, I'm not quite sure that will suffice, so I may look at a yoga mat, or a 1/2inch thick piece of PVC board cut to size.

This looks WAY more stout!!

Looks over engineered which I love! Here's mine for reference. First pic is how it was for years then second pic I added three legs in the middle to help disperse the weight on my tile floor

That is super slick! Love the standing desk base to adjust the light height.

If the tank is rimmed, all you really need is something to fill the slot that faces up around the stand top’s perimeter, then the neoprene over that!

If rimless, then you’ll definitely want to put a sheet of material on top of the stand, with sufficient underpinning to prevent the sheet from bowing!

It's rimless! I was thinking that too, but the stand that ships with this tank doesn't have a full bottom support so I was questioning whether or not its necessary.

Probably best to just use a sheet of material and call it good. Thanks!

Possibly add at least one horizontal top bar for top sheet underpinning!

minimize the length of any unsupported sheet material span to avoid the natural tendency of more or less all sheet materials to bow when bearing load without additional support!

The fasteners and brackets really add up quickly lol.

Yup that's about what I came out to LOL! Sounds like I'll have a significantly less cool looking 2x4 stand 😆

I would have stayed with the anchor fasteners. I believe they’re best fastening method for extruded profiles. I have a thing against seeing the open ends of the profile and choose to put in shear. I’ve built multiple stands this way with no issue. I’ve used a 20# dead blow during testing and the couldn’t get the anchors to budge.

This stand was built with 1515s, 12 legs with adjustable feet. Deflection was negligible when measured during fill. I had multiple dial indicators setup to measure different points.

I kept the anchors where the vertical posts connect to the horizontal span on the top and bottom. But opted for gussets on the interior supports, and some corners.

That stand looks great! What is your baseboard material, and how did you notch it? Super clean.
 
3/4 starboard. I made templates and used a router with 1/8” bit. The profile has an 1/8” corner radius. Use a jigsaw to remove most of the material first. I oversized the cutouts to 1.510”.
