What do you guys use on these? Good old thread tape or is there something better to use?

RectorSeal is what is supposed to be used for PVC. Teflon tape for metal pipe threads. That said, tape will work just fine for PVC as well. There's a higher risk of cracking the fitting using Teflon and over tightening.

I would be a little worried about either one of those. They are designed for sealing metal to metal fittings not PVC.

If those are your only choices, just use plain old teflon tape and only put 2 or 3 wraps on them so it doesn't expand the threads to much.

No. I think that is thread locker. Similar to Loctite Blue or Red.

Honestly, teflon tape is perfectly fine to use and readily available if you can't find RectorSeal. Just don't wrench the fitting down so hard it breaks.

Gotta confess, I still use tape on pvc threads. Only things I ever cracked were bulkheads so now I only use slip bulkheads.

Big box stores carry the liquid stuff usually, right next to the pvc tape. Just make sure it's ok on potable water

Edit- teflon tape... I've already worked 13hrs today

The bottle the first guy showed is the proper product for sealing pvc plumbing, and and still be able to unscrew if needed.

Don't use Teflon tape....you want a thread sealant (some times termed pipe dope) for PVC....such as the Rectorseal product above. I personally use the product from Hercules, "Real Tuff"...but another good brand is Oatey "Great White." Any of these would work.

You are more likely to crack heads using pipe thread tape because it makes them easier to turn. So it's easier to over tighten even with hands.

I agree there's a lot of good information in that post, but I think it's worth considering that the pressures we deal with are significantly less than the ones referenced on that page. I assume we have a much larger margin of error when over tightening or using tape.

After using tape for years, I had a fitting that I used tape on crack ( in the middle of the night) and I woke up to about 80 gallons of saltwater on my floors.
Now I only use Las-Co Plasto-Joint Stik thread sealant
It only takes once.

Did anyone read the OP's posts?

He cannot get PTFE paste, and linked to what was available to him, none of which was PTFE paste. Which is why tape(which he can get) was advised.

Post #4 by the OP. You sometimes have to read the entire thread, not just the OP.

Sorry didn't mean to come off half cocked, it's a forum pet peeve of mine when people respond to the OP and don't read the thread.
