Post #4 by the OP. You sometimes have to read the entire thread, not just the OP.

Sorry didn't mean to come off half cocked, it's a forum pet peeve of mine when people respond to the OP and don't read the thread.

OP is Mussin, post #4 is a different user - Shamrock. I'm confused...

Did anyone read the OP's posts?

He cannot get PTFE paste, and linked to what was available to him, none of which was PTFE paste. Which is why tape(which he can get) was advised.

I think you may be mixing this thread up with another. This is the 1st post of this thread:

What do you guys use on these? Good old thread tape or is there something better to use?

My friend, @Peace River supplied a link to a post which, in turn, has another link. For clarification purposes, I thought it might be wise to put the link directly in this thread.

It's tough to disagree when one of the largest PVC manufacturers in the country says not to use teflon tape for threaded PVC fittings. However, I've seen some arguments over less.

Happy and healthy reefing!

100% agree with everyone above. PTFE paste, but if none is available, and tape is all you got, it can be used in small amounts, and make sure you do not overtighten. Tape was originally designed for metal fittings, and as such it lubricates the threads which with PVC you can very easily be over tightened the fitting causing it to crack.

DO YOU THINK TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS ARE MORE HELPFUL OR HURTFUL TO REEFING?
